Chimney CCTV Survey

Chimney CCTV Inspection at The Cast Iron Fireplace Company uses the most up to date, state of the art Chimney CCTV equipment to accurately diagnose your chimney problems.  Our CCTV chimney survey equipment shows an amazingly clear image of the inside of your chimney flue, the colour CCTV camera head has a 360 degree rotational view, which can pan tilt 180 degrees.  This gives our CCTV chimney inspection team highly accurate visual of the problems all the way up the chimney flue or flexible liner. When installing a 7" or 8" diameter flexible lining system, or where the Eldfast ceramic lining is being considered to fix a leaking chimney, we would recommend having a chimney CCTV survey, to establish which lining system is best.

Hall of shame - Chimney problems and dangerous wood burning stove installations

Installing a woodburning or multifuel stove or a solid fuel fireplace is not a job for the DIY enthusiast.  When installing a woodburning stove there are many considerations that are often over looked.  Here are a few examples of dangerous things we have come across over the years.

Chimney repairs

Chimney lining is one method of fixing a leaking chimney.  In addition, your chimney may need repointing, or the pots on the top of the stack may need to be reflaunched with sand and cement mix with lime in it.  If water is allowed to increase into the chimney flue, it increases the chance of damp issues and deteriorates the lining on the inside of the flue.  Our HETAS registered fitters and chimney lining experts can advise on which chimney lining system is best for the leaking chimney stack. We offer the Eldfast system, as well as flexible lining systems and insulated twin wall flue systems. We are one of very few companys in London to offer all types of chimney lining repairs.

Chimwrap Insulation

To help the draw of a stove we use an amazing product called Chimwrap. This is an insulative “blanket” that is wrapped around the flue liner. By insulating the flue, the flue gases will travel quicker and make the stove work better as a result and keep the inside of your liner cleaner. A cold chimney will not draw properly until it warms up. Without using chimwrap a wood burning stove can have problems drawing when you first light the stove, Chimwrap will increase the draw of your stove and keep your flexible liner in tip top condition. Chim Wrap is the new alternative to Vermiculite. We prefer Chimwrap, as it does not transfer moisture, unlike Vermiculite which has 2 uses, insulating chimneys and being adding to plant pots as a moisture retainer. We do not recommend the use of Vermiculite, even though it is a very good chimney flue insulator.

Ceramic Eldfast lining - HETAS approved system

The Eldfast System is the best type of lining available.  It can be used for lining a chimney where a fireplace is already in place.

ELDFAST is a wholly ceramic material composed of two elements: a refractory ceramic aggregate in powder form and a resin bonding agent that together creates a "slurry" with adhesive properties when applied under pressure.

Traditionally, only materials containing water, lime/clay mortar or cement have been available to re-parge a flue internally, these materials are now known to be prone to acid attack and deterioration. Eldfast chimney lining is a specialist method of fixing a leaking chimney and we are proud to be the approved installersof the Eldfast system for the London area. We cover the South of England for Eldfast installations and chimney CCTV inspections, click here to see our installation areas we cover map.

Eldfast chimney lining is suitable for thatched properties.

HETAS approved external insulated twin wall flue systems

If you do not have a chimney above ground level or have built an extension to your home and would like a stove to add to the room, we can help by installing a metal chimney called an insulated twin wall system.

Using a twin wall system externally you could share the joy of many by having a stove installed. We prefer to use the best metal flues by the renowned chimney manufacturer Poujoulat.

One of our experts would make a visit to talk through the best route and talk over your requirements.  We can make the hearth for the floor, supply the stove and install the lining system.

Once completed our fitters sign off the installation with HETAS as part of our service. We use different types of insulated twin wall flue and favour the Poujoulat insulated twin wall system as it is the best insulated twin wall system.

Due to our concerns over public safety we do not sell insulated twin wall flue systems to the public. We feel that it is irresponsible to encourage members of the public to install their own stoves, as installing stoves should always be done by a HETAS company like ours.

Insulated twin wall chimney flue systems for stoves and open fires - HETAS approved

No chimney, no problem! You can have a metal chimney called a insulated twin wall system.

If you have no chimney in your home, an insulated twin wall system is what you need us to install for you.

The flue systems are installed inside or outside of a building and have a clearance to  combustible joist or rafter of on 50mm.

We install twin wall systems to allow an open fire or stove to be used where there is part of an existing chimney or no chimney in place.

Due to the smaller clearance to combustible materials, stoves can be also be fitted in log cabins and wooden sheds and summerhouses and garden offices.

We prefer to use the best metal chimney manufacturer called Poujoulat, as they are strong, durable and the premier flue manufacturer. Because we install most wood burning stoves with their system, we are able to pass on the savings to our customers.

We do not sell Poujoulat metal chimney flue parts direct to customers, as installing solid fuel stoves should always be done by a HETAS registered company like ours.

Installing wood burning stoves on boats

If you have a boat project and need a stove installed, we are here to help.

We have a made to order range of smaller Boat Stoves made by our blacksmith that are very reasonable.

Boats can get very cold in winter and burning solid fuel on a boat is a cheaper way of heating them when compared to expensive gas or a link up electric supply.

Click the ‘Learn More’ button for more information, or use the ‘Book a survey’ page to email us pictures of your boat.

Internal insulated twin wall systems

Twin wall systems can go through a property where a chimney is partially removed or has been completely taken away.

They have a 50mm clearance to combustible materials that enables them to go through wodden joists and rafters.

We would attend your home or office to answer your questions and work out the best route for you.

The installation is signed off with HETAS, as are all our installations.

Flue Lining for solid fuel stoves

Stoves are designed to work with flexible liners and work better with them, all our liners come with a minimum guarantee of 10 years.

Our fitting teams install stoves with liners every day and can give advise on how to prolong the life of your liner, for example have it regularly swept and only burn approved fuels.

We are HETAS registered and issue the certificate and data plate after each installation.  In addition we issue a certificate to HETAS, who in turn notify your local building authority.

Flexible twin wall lining - HETAS approved

We use the best flexible 316 grade twin wall flexible liners available.  These are used with all chimneys that need lining, from stove installations to open fires for solid fuel fires and gas fires.

It is important to have the correct size flexible liner for an appliance.  Our experts will advise the size required with you on your site survey.

Chimney flue lining for solid fuel fires

When using flexible liner for a solid fuel fire we would measure for a gather to go at the bottom of the system, this closes off the bottom of the flue system. The flexible liner for your chimney would need to be a minimum of 8 inches in diameter.

Our 315 grade and 904 grade twin wall flexible liners would have either a 10 year or 20 year guarantee.

The twin wall flexible liner is then connected to a made to order metal gather, creating a safe route for the smoke to travel into the flue system.

Our chimney experts sign of the installation with HETAS and issue a certificate for your record.

Chimney flue lining for gas stoves

Gas stoves are great for those who want the look of a stove and do not have time to clean up the ash.

All gas stoves need lining due to the cooler flue gases created when in use.  The flexible liner makes sure the flue gases travel up the flue system and out of the chimney pot.

All installations are completed and signed off with Gas Safe (which has replaced Corgi) engineers.

We also under take gas runs for customers who need this service from us.

Hearth templating service

If you need a hearth making especially for your fireplace we offer a templating service to measure the correct size hearth you need.

We can make them in any size and offer to install them for our customers.

We can offer a wide range of materials and advise which are suitable for your preferred fuel, fireplace or stove.

Flexible Chimney Lining for gas fires

When installing an open fire with a gas burner many customers choose to line the chimney first to give peace of mind that the chimney will have a guarantee that it will not leak in a few years. Our Liners have a 10 year or 20 year guarentee, as standard.

Gas fires create cooler flue temperatures and as these gases travel up a brick built chimney they cool.   When the flue gases reduce in temperature they cause acidic condensation on the sides of the brick flue, which destroys the original lime mortar.

By lining the chimney this is not a problem and increases the speed of the flue gases by reducing the size of the flue. This reduces the chance or downdraft issues and spillage when completeing a smoke test.

Stoves with back boilers

We offer installation of Stoves with back boilers.  These can be set up so that they work with your existing combination boiler, or set up on their own to heat your radiators, or both.

We are proud to have one of our wood burning stove with back boiler installations at the Living Green Cetre at Morden Hall Park, which is a show case site for renewable energy sources. Click the News page or the 'Learn More' button to see images of the stove fitting we completed in October 20111.

We are HETAS registered for the installation of appliances and hot water systems.

We always advise that the chimney needs lining with these installations with a 904 grade liner that has a 20 year guarantee, as the chimney without a liner could fail within a few years.
