Property Ladder
Our appearance on Channel 4’s Property Ladder with Sarah Beeny in June 2009.
We were approached by twin sisters Tash and Loretta because of our expertise and experience with the supply and fitting of fireplaces and chimney lining. They needed our help to supply and install two fireplaces in a Victorian Cottage in Brentford. They were dividing the period property into two separate cottages and needed our assistance with what design should go in each of the properties.
Firstly we recommended a chimney sweep who was local to them, he is registered with the National Association of Chimney Sweeps. The chimney sweep issued the certificate of sweeping and confirmed the chimney was safe to use and did not require the chimney to be lined by us prior to the installation.
We then made a site visit in March 2008 to talk over the clients details and take the measurements we needed. Twin sisters Tash, Loretta and her partner David used our website to see the fireplaces we sell, as they wanted it to suit the age of the property.
We came back to complete the fireplace fitting and filming of the show in April 2008, as the project was coming to an end.
In Loretta’s cottage we advised that we supply and install a classic London Limestone surround with a classic arched insert with a four-piece Black Granite Hearth to suit a solid fuel fire. This would appeal to more buyers when they are ready to sell the property and it is a traditional look that is perfect for a period building. This was made to order in real Limestone, in the UK, as was the hearth.
In Tash’s cottage conversion she was going for a more modern look with Black Granite work tops in the kitchen. So we decided that she should have a hole in the wall fireplace built, this is where we raise the bottom of the builder's opening and lay a made to order front and back hearth from Black Granite, so as to complement the Black Granite in the kitchen. The Black Granite was also made for the specific job in the UK by our experts. The choice of basket was the Scott Basket.
If you would like our involvement on your project, remember we also undertake all Corgi (now Gas Safe) work. We can help with gas servicing and the laying gas runs in addition to all the normal gas fireplace installation work.
