The Carron Dante is a great looking addition to the existing Carron range, with it’s curved rear edges making it distinctive and attractive. The manufacturers at Carron have really done a great job with this stove, it heats up quickly and has smoke exempt status. The firebricks are by far the strongest in any stove that we see, they are really thick and can withstand lots of usage. The fire rope and door closing function all work very well, as do the vents in controlling how hot you want to burn the stove.
We were very lucky to see it earlier in 2010 when it had been tested to extreme temperatures of around 1000 degrees centigrade, prior to having it approved by DEFRA. Even though the black cast iron had almost gone white from the heat exposure, the welds were intact, the firebricks in great condition and the fire rope was in the same position and nothing had changed. We were very impressed to say the least. On top of this, it is a wood burning smoke exempt stove with a multifuel grate. It also has a large window which is great for a big flame picture. We will be recommending this stove to all our customers.
The Carron Dante 5kW wood burning stove does not exceed the hearth temperature to more than 100 degrees centigrade, which means that it can be fitted onto a free standing hearth on top of wooden flooring, without the need for a constructional hearth. The minimal thickness of the hearth has to be 12mm, which is fine to use, but we recommend using a 20mm thick slab of slate with risers underneath, so that the top slab is better supported.
