The Yorkshire Smokeless Stove is the only woodburning stove ever to have met all the UK clean-burning tests. The clean combustion gives you a clear view of the fire through the large self-cleaning window.

The Yorkshire Smokeless Stove has been approved by DEFRA (Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs) and the devolved administrations for use in smoke control areas in the UK and are exempt from the section 20 of the clean air act 1993 when;

1) Installed, maintained and operated in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
2) No fuel shall be used other than: untreated dry wood, peat or peat briquettes, Union Coal briquettes, CPL Wildfire bituminous coal briquettes or any other approved smokeless fuel.

In ordinary stoves, air comes up beneath the fuel, so that smoke (which is tiny particles of unburned fuel), heat and waste goes up the chimney. The Yorkshire is different – air enters above the fuel, sweeping in front of the window, forcing smoke down into the hottest part of the fire and on into a refractory-lined ‘after-burn’ chamber. Highly turbulent air is introduced to the hot smoke, which ignites generating temperatures of up to 1100C. The result is not just near-zero smoke emission, but greatly improved efficiency, virtually instant controllability and a truly astonishing swirling flame pattern.

FUEL BREAKDOWN

Wood: Logs, any time of wood
Wildfire: Compressed Briquette made from Bituminous Coal
Peats: Peat Tuves and Peat formed into Briquettes. Like wood it readily absorbs moisture so keep dry.
Lignite: Union Briquettes is a natural fuel, a mixture of peat and coal. It burns with a great heat.
Anthracite: Welsh dry steam coal. A very hard natural form of coal. Slow to light but burns with great heat for a long time.
Manufactured smokeless fuels: Briquettes, Ovals, and Coke Fuels. As long as the fuel is HETAS approved it is suitable to burn
For heat efficient Hardwood that has been specially dried for a longer, cleaner burn, see our Log Store for prices and delivery in your area.

TOP TIPS

Many stove manufacturers are claiming a ‘clean burn’. This does not mean they are approved appliances. If you live in a smoke free control area, you should make sure the stove you install is an officially approved appliance.

Wood burns best on a layer of its own ash, with the grate bars closed. Try to leave a layer of ash at least 13mm thick.

Surprisingly, for the best economy, the Firebox hold needs to be full, and the air control set to nearly closed. This gives a steady glow and is more energy efficient than little and often for re-fuelling.

The Smoke free stove has been approved for long burning times, in excess of 12 hours. Allow the fire to burn down to a low, hot fire bed. Then the remove the ash as required.

You can cook with your stove! Enjoy food cooked with a real flame. Look at the options available under the Smokeless Stove for cooking utensils designed specifically for the stove.

For fat free cooking, you can now order a Griddle made especially for the Smokeless Stove. These cost £60 - please contact us to order these with your stove.

Made from Cast Iron, that is not enamelled, the Griddle has been deliberately designed to give excellent distribution of heat and to maintain a reasonable, even temperature during cooking. To achieve the even heat distribution, the griddle is cast using a thicker base than other Griddles. This thickness absorbs and spreads the heat evenly through the surface area. It also makes the Griddle heavier; so it is of a sufficient weight to remain in position during cooking (7.5kg).

The griddle has ribs for cooking meat and vegetables, and a flat area for eggs, waffles etc. It also has 4 ribs in the underside, near the edges to raise it slightly from the direct source of heat.

This Griddle was made for the Smokeless Stove, however, it can also be used on Electric or Gas ovens.
