Jamie has been with The Cast Iron Fireplace Company since 2009 and is one of our fully qualified HETAS registered installers, he signs off his own installations for our company. Jamies’ work history commenced at the age of 16 training as a fencer/decker whilst at the same time attending Richmond College where he studied carpentry for three years. He then took up a position within a local builders yard, Code Build, whilst deciding where to go after successfully passing his exams. At Code Build, he generally assisted customers with their orders and re-positioning the stock via fork lift truck. It was here that Jamie gained his vast knowledge of building materials. He often helped us with our orders and we had our eye on him even then to join us, as we could see he had real potential to grow within our company.
However, Jamie’s ultimate plan was to become a builder’s apprentice and he did this for four years and did very well until he incurred a severe injury. However, when the recession loomed upon us all, Jamie’s employer was unable to keep him on, and this gave us the opportunity to ask him to join us at The Cast Iron Fireplace Company, and we are pleased to say he made a full recovery and accepted our offer. We only had to wait 5 years, but better late than never!
With his building experience Jamie is skilled as a ‘brickie’ and has loads of roofing experience, which made him the perfect candidate to join our team of fireplace and chimney lining experts. Jamie has 800 installations under his belt, which includes wood-burning/multifuel stoves and fireplaces, insulated twin wall and Eldfast ceramic lining systems - all of which have been accumulated throughout the past three years’ of his HETAS solid fuel training scheme with us.
In May 2011 Jamie passed his HETAS certification with the required 100% pass rate on the written section, where no questions can be answered incorrectly. The fitters are tested on their knowledge of Section J of Building Regulations over a three-day course. The minimum requirement for such a course is to have two years’ hands-on experience, with a company such as ours. Jamie excelled on the practical elements - ‘spotting errors with live installations’, and was top of his class!
Now that Jamie signs off his own work, he has joined the surveying team, meeting customers on site to calculate how best to proceed using the best method forward to install the wood-burning/multifuel stove of their dreams and/or help to diagnose where their chimney is leaking, using our state of the art CCTV camera equipment.
Like all our fitters Jamie was put through Pasma training by The Cast Iron Fireplace Company. PASMA stands for Prefabricated Access Suppliers’ and Manufacturers’ Association. It provides and governs the industry standard training scheme for mobile access towers. Standard and advanced courses deliver proficiency and competence as required by the Work at Height Regulations. For many, the PASMA certificate and ID card are the only acceptable proof of competence.
We are very proud that Jamie is on our team not only because of his high standards and knowledge of the building trade, but he is a very approachable guy and is a real people’s person. He works all hours and is committed to get the job finished for customers, even if that means working late.
Keen on sport and having a close knit family of similar interest they all attend Fulham Football Club and all of whom have been seasoned ticket holders over the past four years. He is a keen angler together with many of his friends.
