Builder's opening increased or reduced

Often with fireplace and stove fitting, it is necessary to open up a builder's opening or reduce the fireplace open for the installation.

We undertake this work on the day of fitting or sometimes a few days prior to the installation to allow a chimney sweep to sweep the chimney before an installation.

We can include the disposal of the masonry as part of our quote, or bag it up for our customers to dispose of them self.

Part of the preparation of an opening can be to install a new lintel, to give a larger opening or to reduce an opening.

A constructional hearth is an important part of a solid fuel fire and stove.  This is the concrete part in front of the fire.  Depending on the dimensions of the appliance the size of the constructional hearth can change.

A decorative hearth covering the constructional hearth is required for gas and solid fuel open fires.  Some stoves that exceed the hearth temperatures to exceed 100 degrees centigrade also require a decorative hearth, also called a superimposed hearth.  The decorative hearth does not need to be as large as a constructional hearth.
