Gas fires
Our fitters install our own fires, or one you have
pre-bought. They are
HETAS and CORGI (now called Gas Safe) registered.
Our fitters have the experience to fit your antique
cast iron fire or
marble chimney-piece, or your
reproduction combination fire with gas burner.
Gas fires are convenient as you can turn them off when you want to go out. Gas fires over 7kw need a vent installing in the room, so most gas burners are classed as decorative and are around 6.95kw. Many of the old gas fires were unrestricted and produced a lot of heat as a result of burning lots of gas.
We can complete gas runs and offer a
templating service to update your old gas fire. Many of these would not pass current safety standards.
Before fitting a fireplace you must have the chimney swept by an approved chimney sweep to see if it needs lining. Once the
NACS registered chimney sweep approves the chimney stack is safe to use for 12 months, you can have us install the fireplace for you with out a liner. It is recommended that a masonry chimney using gas should be swept once per year, though chimneys can pass one year and not the next.
Chimneys that have been used with a gas fire are often in a worse condition than a flue that has been used for burning solid fuel. This is due to the flue gases cooling as they travel up. These gases cool down and cause condensation on the lime render on the inside of the flues and the loose pargeting starts to fall away from the inside. This exposes the mortar in between the bricks, which then starts to fall down the chimney, especially in windy weather! This can block the gas fires from working, it is important to check the chimney
We can also measure for a new
hearth to be made for you fireplace if your old one does not conform to current regulations. It needs to be 50mm above floor level, or there must be a fender in place around the hearth if it is less.
We have an
animation on our home page that shows the importance of a
vent and fitting a fireplace properly.
